Sometimes things get broken. My husband and I learned this rather quickly after our first son was born. We baby proofed the house. Despite that, there were still times when his curious grab, with those tiny hands, would end with something broken. Things like Christmas tree ornaments that we thought were out of reach or a carelessly placed knickknack were fair game for those little toddler hands. Once things are broken, they are changed forever. When we get “broken” there isn’t glue to put us back together. So we turn to our faith and scripture for reassurance.
The Gospel lesson for this week leads us into a discussion about broken relationships. Divorce can be the elephant in the room, but not this weekend. We need to talk about the difficulties broken relationships create and where we find Jesus in them.
