RIC Panel Discussion January 29, 2022

HOW DO WE MAKE IT OBVIOUS THAT WE WELCOME THOSE IN THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE OF COLOR? January 29, 12:00 in Parish Hall

Just as we did for people with disabilities, we are turning our focus to people of color and those in the LGBTQ+ community. We want to know what we can do to ensure that these folks know they are welcome at ILC. Just as there are people with disabilities in our current community, there are also people of color and those in the LGBTQ+ community. Just as we learned from those with disabilities what accomodations would be beneficial for them, we want to learn what would be beneficial for these two groups of people. The Love Committee invites you to a panel discussion with some folks in the LGBTQ+ community on January 29 in the Parish Hall. They will share with us their stories. We will get an understanding of how we can be truly welcoming to these individuals. We will hear from three people who attend First Lutheran - a Reconciling in Christ congregation - and one of our own ILC members.

One of the First Lutheran members is Mary Ann Horton, a transgender woman. She spoke to her congregation on Christ the King Sunday last year, which can be seen in the Youtube video below. Her talk begins at 23:28.

Lunch will be provided. Sign up here or on the sign-up sheet (available on Sundays and in the church office) so we can plan accordingly.
