July 22, 2020 (Week 19)
Sisters and Brothers in Christ!
As we move forward into yet another week of uncertainty, there are some things to be said.
First this: Scott Steller has put together for us, something I’ve coveted for a very long time. Applications for our smartphones. Nowadays, pretty much everyone has a smartphone, and our apps basically are a gateway to our church. Everything you can find on the website is there. Worship, Bible Study, calendars, missions, giving opportunities and means, etc., etc. Please go to the Apple App Store, or the Google Play Store to download the app appropriate to your device, and get used to the app. You can even find links to get the apps from our own website. You’re going to love it. Welcome to our church! (Thanks again, Scott!!)
Finally this: God’s church is at work! Really, really at work. We are preaching, teaching, counseling, sharing, ministering, evangelizing at a break-neck pace. That is not so much a function of our super powers, but a function of the changing needs of our community. People are hurting; people are hungering; people are in need. I am grateful to our Lord that through the support of a community of faith like Incarnation’s, we can do “stuff!” Ministry staff, together with our music and technical staff, has worked very hard to provide virtual worship and devotional opportunities. So far, the feed back has been quite good.
But beyond that basic level of service, we are continually being asked for help. It may be from someone who needs help to cover expenses....medical expenses, housing expenses; even food. There are many relationships that are in turmoil for a plethora of reasons. Health concerns, employment concerns, economic concerns; all of which seems to be doing untold harm to relationships. So we are fielding as best we can, whatever God sends our way. And we are grateful to you that we are here to be helpful in such an obviously difficult time.
But I am concerned for my staff. The lot of them. They are all overtaxed. Part of that has to do with the demands of the day, which has increased overall workloads (very) significantly. And it is important to note that this is in the face of being short one support staff position. Early this year, the church council decided that financial restrictions precluded the possibility of recruiting for our Parish Administrator’s position. The centrality of that position has never for been more acutely felt as it has now that things are so very different.
And so, there are some things I want to communicate to the congregation, to ask your support for your employees. I would like to respectfully ask that members be mindful of the days off of our staff. In this way, I hope that they will all be able to avail themselves of well-deserved rest, and to be back at work with as much energy as they can muster. In the event of emergency, there is no one who would be troubled by a phone call...so please reach out to us if such an emergency arises.
The following is a list of the days off of our staff:
Dorcas (Finance Administrator) works Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Off Sat/Sun
Scott (IT/AV/Band Leader) works Wednesday to Sunday, varied hours but off Mon/Tues
Jacob (Custodian-pt time) works Monday to Friday 8 pm to 11 pm
Beckie (Traditional Music) works pt time hours at her discretion, but takes Mon/Tues off
Karen (Saturday evening Musician) works part time hours at her discretion
John (Organist) works part time hours at his discretion
Deacon Mindy (Youth Minister) typically takes Friday and Saturday off
Pastor Tim (Associate Pastor) He’s off from Wed., 11 am to noon on Fri. He’ll be in the office on Friday from noon to 5.
Pastor Luther (Senior Pastor) tries to take off Thursday and Friday each week.
As a staff, we are very aware of how blessed we are. We have been given an opportunity to minister to so many of God’s children in this place and beyond. And we know that it is your compassion and faithfulness that makes such a ministry possible. Thank you for that! If you have a need, or know someone who does, we are but a call away. Please reach out to us, so that we might serve you.
Once again, a reminder: All of our online activities are found on our website, (www.godamong.us) and can be accessed on a link there that says “ILC Online Activities.” I hope you’ll go there to find links to worship, Bible Study, devotions, etc., etc. Please do join us. Get involved in your church!
Stay safe, be well, love intentionally, and know that you are indeed blessed!
- After worship, around 11 am, Darrell and Nancy Datte host our after worship coffee/donut fellowship time (BYOC/D) on Zoom, and look forward to welcoming everyone in our community. Please think about joining in and saying hi to your brothers and sisters. That gathering can be found here:
