January 27, 2021 (Week 46)

Good afternoon sisters and brothers!

I hope that everyone is staying safe and feeling well. Remember, if you need anything with which we can help (and even if you don’t think we can help), please call! We’re all here for you.

This Sunday after worship, at 11:15 am, we’ll be gathering for our 2021 Annual Congregational Meeting. This will be a bit different than your average annual congregational meeting, because it will be conducted by Zoom. It is really important that all confirmed members make every effort to participate. At this meeting many important decisions are being taken for the coming year, and you’re going to hear exciting reports of plans for the future. You can access this meeting here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8584995166 or by 1) going to our website (https://www.godamong.us); 2) clicking on ILC Online Activities; and 3) scroll to the bottom of the list to the bottom and click on the Zoom link beside “Congregational Meeting (11:15 Sunday 1/31)”. I hope to see everyone there!

Our Ash Wednesday Service will be very special this year. We will make the service available at 6 am on Ash Wednesday, February 17, in place of TSYD that day. There cannot be Imposition of Ashes this year, but we are distributing (see below) a sticker depicting the sign of the cross made with ash, that you may adhere to your clothing to wear throughout the day to help you “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” The email with the appropriate link will be sent out on that day to all who are subscribed to “To Start Your Day”. A link will be made in a future newsletter as well. Watch for it!!

Deacon Mindy has put together “Lent in a Bag” once again this year, and has created a sign up for people who need to complete the materials from last year, or perhaps to get a fresh kit. These are resources (devotional and otherwise) designed to help you focus on Lent and what it means for you. So click on the link below if you need the Lent in a Bag. The same link will also help you find the Ash Wednesday stickers that we’re providing for use on that day.

On Sunday, February 7, you’ll have an opportunity to participate in our annual “Souper Bowl of Caring”. On that day, you can drive by the church and make donations in at least three ways, that will be a blessing to so many, in so many ways. 1) You can drop off canned goods that will go to our local food pantry at Interfaith Community Services. 2) You can bring monetary gifts, that will be distributed appropriately to help feed the hungry. 3) You can bring jackets and blankets to be distributed to the homeless in inner city San Diego through the Third Avenue Charitable Organization. Please do come and share your blessings with others who are so desperately in need.

Lots of stuff going on here. Please stay tuned. We’re now more hopeful than ever of being able to start an in-person outdoor service again, fairly soon. Particularly with a view to eventual re-opening. We will keep you up to date, but please know that your church is alive and well and working hard to proclaim the good news; the excellent news; that Jesus is Lord! In God alone, do we have hope. Just remind yourself of that everyday!

Take good care and know that God loves you…and so do we! All of us here, see our selves, and you as God’s servants, with the primary purpose to “Serve God in the Service of ALL God’s people.” We’re here to serve you! And we’re here to serve others, with you! I hope you’ll join us!

Peace!

Pr. Luther

- Because of the Stay At Home orders, Incarnation cannot host a two-week Interfaith Shelter Network rotation this year. However, Interfaith Shelter Network has secured housing at a hotel in Escondido and caterer to provide meals for up to five individuals and/or families. In lieu of volunteering for the two-week rotation, please consider financially supporting Interfaith Shelter Network for housing and meals. Just put the word, shelter, on the memo line on a check made out to LCI or donate on Incarnation’s website.
