February 4, 2021 (Week 47)
Good morning everyone:
Today I want to remind everyone of how they might access our services and resources. The easiest way for some is to download the app for your smartphone. Both Android and Apple app store have our app, and it is pretty complete, in terms of what you can find. Worship, Devotions, Bible Studies, Bible Readings, Committee Meetings, important announcements, etc., etc. If you don’t have a smart phone or simply prefer to use your computer, please go to our church website (https://www.godamong.us) and click on the link that says “ILC Online Activities.” Pretty much all the aforementioned information will be there at your disposal. Please do look at and take advantage of everything we have for you, for it goes without saying that our spiritual life needs now to be nurtured as much as ever before.
If your needs are greater or more specific than that, and you require personal attention, please do reach out to us. Dorcas is able to screen all of the voicemail left at the church’s number, and will get back to you as soon as she can. If you need pastoral care, please, please call. We have no way to know how best to help unless we’re in the loop, and we need you to help us there. Pr. Tim is off on Wed. afternoon, all-day Thursday, and Friday morning. But he can be reached all other days at his email (email@example.com) or phone (808-383-9481). Deacon Mindy is off on Fridays and Saturdays, and can be reached Sunday through Thursday by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (858-232-2141). And I’m off, in principle, on Thursdays and Fridays, and am available by email (email@example.com) or phone (858-465-9848). We look forward to hearing from you, and though we pray for all of you regularly, we miss seeing you, and caring for you in person. We’re here for you, so please let us help if the need arises.
Please look beneath this letter for a number of exciting announcements. Your church is open and at service in God’s world! See how you might become involved!
Stay safe, brothers and sisters. Vaccinations are really starting in earnest now, and it won’t be too many more weeks when we’ll begin to be able to measure a higher percentage of people protected than as yet unprotected. This sad state of affairs will wind down. Don’t be discouraged! And in the meantime, know that your church is here for you!
Grace and peace,
- Before worship, around 9 am, Darrell and Nancy Datte host our after worship coffee/donut fellowship time (BYOC/D) on Zoom, and look forward to welcoming everyone in our community. Please think about joining in and saying hi to your brothers and sisters. That gathering can be found here:
-Souper Bowl of Caring 2021 The Souper Bowl of Caring inspires youth organizations to fight hunger in their communities Each year Incarnation’s youth participate on Super Bowl Sunday to raise monetary and non-perishable food donations for TACO and Interfaith Community Services. This year we hope to top the $1,116 raised last year. But not being together in person changes how we can make this happen. We will host a drive-thru donation event. Here is your invitation:
Who: YOU! What: Souper Bowl Sunday Where: Incarnation’s front parking lot When: February 7 at 12 – 2pm Why: To beat hunger! How: Drive thru and donate Donations of money and non-perishable food can be placed in collection barrels representing the Super Bowl teams and Commercials. Vote with your donations for who you hope will win the big game. The Local Mission Committee will be collecting gently used blankets, coats, and sweatshirts. At the same time, you can drop off these items for TACO’s clients in need. Monetary donations can also be made by mailing a check to church or donating the church website https://www.godamong.us/giving Please specify that the donation is for the SOUPERBOWL.
-Ash Wednesday Stickers and Lent in a Bag 2021 Our Ash Wednesday services will be online. You can now sign up online to receive supplementary items. In the sign-up, please indicate if you would like to receive these items for Lent this year. Members may request stickers representing the Ash Wednesday cross. Please indicate the number of stickers needed (one for each member of your household) in the RSVP section of the signup. We are also providing "Lent in a Bag" for members who did not receive one last year or no longer have one. Items will be available for pick up at the church. You will receive an email with pick up instructions when items are ready. Sign up if interested here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BAEAD28A5F5C25-ashwednesday
-Interfaith Rotational Shelter Because of the Stay At Home orders, Incarnation cannot host a two-week Interfaith Shelter Network rotation this year. However, Interfaith Shelter Network has secured housing at a hotel in Escondido and caterer to provide meals for up to five individuals and/or families. In lieu of volunteering for the two-week rotation, please consider financially supporting Interfaith Shelter Network for housing and meals. Just put the word, shelter, on the memo line on a check made out to LCI or donate on Incarnation’s website.
Doorstep Donations for Lent Would you like to make donations of food and hygiene items for the homeless right from your own doorstep? Contact Joyce Miller to schedule a contactless pick-up at firstname.lastname@example.org or 858-218-5047 (cell).
Project Mercy/Mexico House Build Mission: Our next house build for a Mexican family is scheduled for Saturday, April 24th. Due to Covid-19 and related border restrictions, we will do this build in Chula Vista again. We will assemble and paint the home components and Project Mercy personnel will deliver to Mexico and assemble. Since we will only be building the components, the time commitment will be much less than usual (4-6 hours). This is a great opportunity for those that like to build or paint, but have been unable to travel into Mexico for prior builds. If you are interested in participating in this build or have questions, please contact Jake Johnson (email@example.com / 858-451-3268). We do need to raise $7,000 for this build, so if you would like to contribute please mark your donation with "Mexico House Build". Here is a link to the church website to donate via Paypal: GIVING | incarnation-lutheran Details from our October mission project are included here: Details from our October mission project are included here: http://projectmercybaja.org/2020/11/05/the-first-of-the-houses-built-in-chula-vista-goes-up-in-tijuana/
-Diapers needed! Interfaith is out of size 5 & 6 diapers, both very popular sizes. Also dog and cat food. If you are able please add these items to your shopping list and drop off at our usual times on Sat, Tues, or Fri between 9 and 11. If you have a person in your household that likes a project, bagging the dog or cat food into smaller sizes is greatly appreciated, 10cups in a 1 gallon bag is about right. Thank you so much for your constant generosity!
-Food Drop off for Interfaith Community Services Every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday between 9:00 and 11:00 in the morning, volunteers are in the parking lot to move groceries and take all the donations to ICS.
