ILC Letter To The Congregation - November 24th, 2021

Love Intentionally

Love Inclusively

Love Universally

Love Completely

Love Everyone, always

Love Better!

Last Sunday Pr. Luther shared via video during the sermon about what is currently going on in our mission in Cameroon. In case you missed it or want to see it again, the link is here. Below is the backstory to our mission there which helps give more context to what was shared in the sermon video.

A reminder - Pr. Luther and Nusrat Symons served as missionaries in Cameroon in the 1990s. Pr. Luther was the head of the seminary.

In 2008, the first group of youth went to Cameroon from Incarnation with Pr. Luther. That year they painted dorms and met Sophie who helped with the painting. Annual trips with the youth and one with medical staff continued for the next 8 or 9 years. During those early trips, we did projects at the local hospital in Ngaoundere and at various churches in Cameroon. We also built a relationship with the people of Cameroon. In addition to Sophie, we met Caroline and got to know Nathalie. Nathalie Fida Lassang went on to get a degree in medicine and was working on finishing her residency, but has been unable to secure the last years of residency she needed. She is currently married and living in Germany with her husband and son.

Caroline Adjimi came to the US for 5 years and lived with Dave and Louise Nichols while she got her bachelors and masters degrees in Women's Studies and Social Work. She also sang at worship with our band, Revived. In 2017 she went back to Cameroon and began working with the street girls at Le Foyer after the initial project that she was working on with Incarnation didn't work out. This began the partnership with the Catholic Le Foyer de l'Espérance. The Catholic-Lutheran partnership is highly unusual in Cameroon. Donations to Incarnation supported her as a social worker at Le Foyer. In 2019 Caroline got a scholarship to go to London and get a PhD in Women's Health. She is currently in Cameroon finishing her research for her doctoral work and will be heading back to London soon.

Meanwhile, Incarnation continued its involvement in Cameroon and kept in contact with Sophie Moke Meteke. Again through generous donations, we supported some of her schooling as she got her bachelor's and this past summer her master's degrees. She is working to become a pastor in Cameroon (which is similar to becoming a woman pastor in the United States in the 1960s and 70s). Two years ago, Sophie took Caroline's place at Le Foyer when Caroline went to London. She has been a role model and has done wonderful work with the street girls at Le Foyer. There is a segment from her in the video.

In the video you will also see the new building. The wall around the outside was paid for with generous donations from Incarnation and outside sources. Most of the building was paid for with contributions from Spain. On this trip, funds were given to the girls program at Le Foyer de l'Esperance to directly help with programs and tuition for schooling for the girls and some were given towards the increased costs of the building. In addition, the wonderful Incarnation quilting Piecemakers sent 20 quilts to be used at the new facility. Incarnation Lutheran Church - Bridge Builders presents:

The Annual Senior Holiday Luncheon

After a one year hiatus, on Saturday, December 11, 2021, The Bridge Builders men’s group is hosting our Annual Luncheon honoring all members who have circled the sun at least 75 times. Beginning with appetizers and gathering at 11:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall, a delightful luncheon lovingly prepared and served by the men of ILC will follow at 12:00 PM.

If you can attend as one of our guests, please fill out a form found as an insert in the worship bulletin and return this form to the church in the offering plate or mail to the church. We look forward to your presence. Couples can simply fill in both your names to let us know your attendance. Because of the uncertainties created by last year’s events, we would really like to get a good head count, but even if you are unable to get this form back to us, your attendance will be welcome!
